The Strand Book Store at 828 Broadway (and 12th St)
Strand Bookstore is an independent bookstore located in New York City's Greenwich Village. The store houses the city's largest collection of rare books, and is also a contender for the title of world's largest used bookstore, its major competitor in this regard being Powell's Books of Portland, Oregon. Its slogan is "18 Miles of Books".

growing up poor, the Strand Book Store was heaven sent.
to begin with,
all the books are discounted.
whether they be brand new review copies of the latest bestsellers,
or slightly used books.
one may spend hours buying select, individual books,
or the books are just gonna gather dust on a shelf,
never to be read,
one may buy them by the foot!
there's 18 miles of books to choose from.
comic book, . . .er, uhm, graphic novel fans?
be aware, these are to be found in the children's section . . . still.
rare book collectors: herein lies Paradise: third floor.
dollar books?
ya don't even hafta go in the store;
shelves are lined along 12th street decorating
the sidewalk in dollar books
oh, . . .,celebrity fans: be nice to the employees,
they're gonna be famous artists, writers and/or musicians
someday soon
. . . ask Patti Smith, just one of many former employees.
p.s. that pretty young lady, or handsome young man,
that couldn't stop staring into your eyes, then smiled,
and whispered hello to you?
