WTC Memorial Magnificent, but at a Steep Price | NBC New York: "WTC Memorial Magnificent, but at a Steep Price
The roughly $700 million project will cost $60 million a year to operate
"

{quite frankly, i'm never tempted to stop at the museum shop, at the exhibit or even glance at the site even though i walk by ground zero every weekday. maybe its that proximity breeds contempt. more likely, i don't want to dwell on the worst experience of my entire life. i'll remember the lost on my own terms.

on the other hand, the tourists are many. from the very beginning folk came from the world over to stare at a construction site that could very well be a construction site anywhere else.

now we want to provide a monument almost as ugly architecturally as the twin towers were so that the rubber-neckers get their money's worth. of course, New York will carry the bulk of the bill. it remains to be seen if tourism generates enough blood money to afford us some respite}[ero]
