India demands U.S. drop prosecution of its diplomat charged with paying maid just $3.31 an hour  - NY Daily News:

""One wonders why there is so much outrage about the alleged treatment of the Indian national accused of perpetrating these acts, but precious little outrage about the alleged treatment of the Indian victim and her spouse," Bharara said.

"This office's sole motivation in this case, as in all cases, is to uphold the rule of law, protect innocent victims, and hold accountable anyone who breaks the law - no matter what their societal status and no matter how powerful, rich or connected they are."

The diplomatic reprisals by India against the U.S. have included the removal of large concrete barriers from in front of the U.S. Embassy in New Delhi that protect against terrorist attacks. Indian authorities have also revoked the ID cards of American diplomats and launched probes into the salaries of Indians who work for U.S. consulates."
