La Verdad recide donde el Sol besa al Horizonte.
Es Estrella, y es Mar.
Quema y Ahoga. Es dificil de alcanzar.
Pero nos llama como los ojos desnudos de un Sol.

below Union Square, in the subway
"Say first, of God above or man below,
What can we reason but from what we know?"
~~ Alexander Pope (1688–1744)
Loved the glitz in those pictures!!Did u take them?Would luv 2 visit these places.n good 2 c ur blogging again. There's a new poem on my blog.Pls do chk it asap.
thanks, Momza, wethinx you'd like it here in NYC. :-)
lots of tall mountains (buildings), and canyons (streets), and wildlife (baby, can it get wild!).
but, more importantly, there are a lot of good people that would love you and your family. hey, plan a visit, maybe you can stop by the LDS museum, then hike the wilds of Central Park. :-)
best month to visit: early june, great weather, free concerts.
yep, the crowds can get to be a bit much. we're considering retiring to a small town in the midwest: Galena, Illinois. it reminds us of Billyburg, Brooklyn in a way. but not as crowded (or yuppified.)
btw, the music you mention is really swell, it Anean Pan music - very soothing and relaxing (ironic, huh?)
the Metroplolitan Transit Authority (MTA) of New York has a program, Music Under NY (MUNY) which runs appx 150 concerts over 25 stations over the course of a year.
most of these occur between late May through mid-September, however they DO occor throughout the year. remember it DOES get cold in winter and being underground helps just a little because of the proximity to the underground sewers which are hot enough to keep the streets defrosted and warm up the stations just a bit.
this is not to say that musicians NOT-sanctioned by MUNY don't make their way underground as well. cops WILL ask these to move along whenever they encounter them.
also, musicians, dancers and assorted buskers perform on the subway lines as the trains are running. these are definitely outside the law, but there they are all the same.
frankly, NY's reputation fobeing ON all the time is well deserved. there's no shortage of entertainment day or night, above or below, inside or out, legal or not. its just a part of life here.
if you care to see buskers in all their varied glory, though, late spring and early summer is the time to visit.
hey, Anil, thanks for the visit.
p.s. just want to mention that A CHRONICLE OF A DEATH FORETOLD is one of our favorite stories/plays as well.
Hello - After a 2-month absence, I have returned to blogging. While I was away, many have left the blogosphere, hope you are still around. Have a nice evening!

The above pictures made me realize why I'm afraid to go to NYC but I wished I had been able to hear the below performers.
Very neat idea! Seeing these pics reminds me of why NY intimidates me so much. SO many people bustling about, living their lives.

The 'above' photos remind me of the vitality, the business of Manhattan - the crowd there is larger than the adult population of my entire city.
I too wished I could hear the music from the 'below' set.
This was a marvelous idea.
Michele,
nothing to be scared of, luv, a lot of the people that you see in the picture are visitors, as you would be.
just c'mon over, kiddo, NY can be lots of fun. great place to visit. :-)

thanks Deep,
sure did take the shots. always walk around with our point-and-shoot for just such occasions.
we find that since the pix themselves are not that great, we can either jazz them up, or spin them to add more interest.
glad to see that you are back to poetizing on a regular basis. that is good news. keep it up.

There's a certain charm to performers out on the street. Is the subway open to performers all year round?
well, Anil,
yes and no . . . :-)
